Senior Networking 2026

April 2026, Cougar Chronicles

Our annual Senior Networking event has become a highlight on the calendar for both volunteers and students alike. On April 9, over 50 current and retired professionals joined the class of 2026 for an afternoon of networking that allowed the students to hone this important skill. Putting their professional communications skills into practice – something they have worked on at their Professional Work-Study jobs over the last four years – is a huge benefit for the seniors, who will soon be headed off to explore college, internships, and ultimately begin their careers.

“Senior Networking was important because I met professionals from different places,” said senior Cesar. “One of them was actually from a school I’m interested in attending, the University of Richmond, and I got to speak with them about admissions.” Cesar continued, “Another thing it helped with was my communication skills. I’ve never talked to so many people at once. I had to introduce myself in different ways and start new conversations. It was a big breakthrough for me.”

In addition to practicing their networking skills, the event provides a great opportunity for students to meet professionals who work in specific industries. These conversations allow students to ask questions about particular career paths and gain firsthand knowledge and advice. “Senior Networking allowed me to connect with professionals that have experience in my future career,” said Aissata. “It was very beneficial for me to discuss potential internships and future opportunities that might be available to me as I pursue this path.”
