Fall Sports Update

Athletic Updates, Oct 2025

Cristo Rey Athletics is off to a strong start this fall! We’ve enjoyed celebrating our student-athletes during Senior Nights on September 25 and 29, and we look forward to honoring more seniors on October 3.

Among our fall teams, the Cross Country program is off to a terrific start this season! The boys’ team returns six runners, while the girls’ team is rebuilding with four new athletes after last year’s seniors graduated. This season, the team also welcomed back alumni Samuel Alexander, ’21, as an assistant coach, who plans to be very active in our athletic department. The runners have tackled a variety of courses this year—from forest trails and flat Metro Park paths to a city route and even a challenging, hilly course near Hocking Hills. Highlights so far include Kalyn, ‘27 setting a new school record, along with numerous personal bests across the team. We’re excited to see how the rest of the season unfolds!

The Boys Soccer team has also been making steady progress this fall, showing determination and growth each week. A highlight of the season came in a hard-fought match against Horizon Science Academy, where the Cougars trailed 4–1 at halftime but battled back with three straight goals to tie the game. Although Horizon scored a late goal to win 5–4, the comeback demonstrated the team’s resilience and ability to rise to the challenge. Leadership has been a strong point across the roster, with many players stepping up in different ways both on and off the field. One standout is goalkeeper Jbrien ’27, who came into the season with no prior soccer experience yet has anchored the defense with 97 saves in just nine games. The team continues to focus on building consistency, communication, and mental toughness as they work to raise their level of play.
