Boys Basketball
Update from Head Coach Randy Kortokrax: Cougars pick up first win of the season! The young yet determined Varsity team went to Granville Christian on February 10 and came away with their first win, 40-32. The JV team also won in a close game. Despite having limited experience, the Varsity and JV have been working hard on the court and in the classroom. Several of the teams’ losses were by narrow margins, and the athletes have used this as motivation to continue to compete hard and improve their game.
Seniors Jonathan and Nathan along with juniors Henley and Nicholas have been crucial in leading the Cougars. Several freshmen and sophomore Daniel have stepped up to help the Varsity as well.

February 20 will be Senior Night as the Cougars will battle Liberty Christian at St. Charles. The game times are 5:30 and 6:30pm. Come out and help us recognize our two seniors, Jonathan Ruiz and Nathan Yohannes, for all their efforts to help bring stability to the Cristo Rey Cougars Basketball program!

Girls Basketball
Update from Assistant Coach James Wilson: The Lady Cougars hosted their Senior Night basketball game on February 11 at Saint Mary School, competing in a sold‑out matchup against the Saint Patrick Irish. The Cougars fell 43–33 in a closely contested game, led by sophomore Kahlora with 10 points and senior Dakotah with 9 points.
Seniors Bintou, Dakotah, Emelyn, Mickey, and Niarah played with exceptional intensity throughout the night. The team would also like to acknowledge and recognize senior manager Devine for her dedication and outstanding support during the season.
Cheerleading
Update from 4-year Cheer team member, senior Amina: I was honored to lead our cheer team this season with my fellow seniors Nehemie, Rashawna, and Yrveline. Our last week of the season is approaching, with Senior Night on February 20. We have had a great season of bonding, learning from each other, and creating memorable experiences to look back on. I am grateful to all the cheerleaders on the team for their dedication and hard work. We are also so grateful for a Coach Taiahnna Dawkins who stepped up to the plate and has done a great job at coaching! We are looking forward to celebrating the conclusion of our season with the Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball teams at our upcoming banquet and a team bonding event at a skating rink!

Wrestling
Update from Head Coach Anthony Holt: Cougar Wrestling is in the midst of its most successful season yet. We are fielding the largest team in the program’s history, with 9 wrestlers competing at the varsity level. Our team has already had multiple tournament placers with freshmen Prince (144), sophomores Emberly (120) and Yazmine (125), juniors Isaac (144) and Fawaz (175) and senior Nestor (150) all placing in the top 4 at tournaments, with Prince, Yazmine, Isaac, Fawaz and Nestor all medaling with top three tournament finishes. Nestor was also the champion at 150 at the Berne-Union Sugar Valley Classic. In addition to these accomplishments, the team participated in its first dual meet this year, facing off against Columbus Academy. Boys sectionals will take place at Ridgedale High School on February 28 and Girls sectionals at Newark high School on March 1, and are the first step in the state level tournament.
Indoor Track
Update from Athletic Director and Head Coach CharAnna Dixon: Indoor Track is in its third season at Cristo Rey, and has been a great way for athletes to stay in peak condition as they gear up for the spring outdoor season. The Boys team is led by seniors CJ and Derrick and the Girls team is led by senior Miyea. Both the Boys and Girls teams have set multiple school records, and the Boys team has put themselves in position to make it to the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches (OATCCC) Indoor State Championship Meet on March 7.
