Eagle Scout Project Enhances School Chapel

Cougar Chronicles, December 2025, Service Updates

Cristo Rey’s chapel is a special place where students and staff gather for Masses, prayer services, and other religious occasions, such as Stations of the Cross during the season of Lent. Thanks to one of our ambitious students, the space recently received a thoughtful addition – kneelers for a portion of the chapel’s seating area.

Philip, a sophomore at CRC, is currently pursuing the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank achievable in Scouts BSA. One of the requirements to become an Eagle Scout is to lead a service project for a religious institution, school, or the community. When considering what he would choose for his project, Philip said Cristo Rey immediately came to mind. “I wanted to merge both my Scout and my school life,” he explained, “and the Eagle Scout project’s purpose is to make a significant difference and exemplify skills in service, which I believe the kneelers perfectly encapsulate.”

“The most important factor for me though is the project’s religious influence,” Philip continued. “My Catholic faith is highly important to me and kneeling when the Eucharist is present is essential to the Catholic Mass, but without kneelers, it’s hard for some people to do so. I hope the kneelers will encourage and help others feel more comfortable kneeling in the presence of the Eucharist, which in turn, further benefits the school’s religious endeavors.”

Thank you, Philip, for your service to our school and best of luck as you continue to pursue the rank of Eagle Scout!
