Boys Basketball

It is a new era for Cougar basketball! Our new head coach, Randy Kortokrax, who is also our health teacher at CRC, brings over 20 years of high school head coaching experience to the program. He served as Head Coach at Bishop Hartley from 1999-2022, winning five District Championships and one Regional Championship. He finished as the all-time winning basketball coach in Hartley history with 365 wins and was named State Coach of the Year two times. Coach Kortokrax is a graduate of the University of Findlay, where he played basketball and was a 1st Team All-American. He was inducted into the UF Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999.

Update from Coach Kortokrax: We have had some challenges to begin the season, but our players have been working hard both on the court and in the classroom. As a new coaching staff, we’re trying to establish a culture of commitment and accountability, and the athletes have been very receptive to that. The biggest highlight has been our two good battles with Patriot Prep Academy. We were right there in both of those games. Turnovers have been a problem for us, but once we correct that aspect of the game, we will have a much greater chance to win those close games.

Girls Basketball

Update from Assistant Coach James Wilson: The Lady Cougars are on fire this season, bringing unstoppable energy, relentless effort, and a winning spirit to every game! They’re mastering teamwork, building resilience, and pushing toward greatness. Our goal is clear – the league title! – so come cheer on your Lady Cougars and show your support!

Cheerleading

Update from 3-year Cheer team member, junior Ca’Layia: We are very excited about our new halftime routine, which we’ll be performing during boys basketball home games. We have new uniforms this year and we have been working really hard on creating more exciting cheers for the games. Cheer is such a great opportunity for us to bond outside of school, so we enjoy the time we get to spend as a team!

Wrestling

Update from Head Coach Anthony Holt: This season we have our biggest team yet, with over a dozen wrestlers planning to compete. The team is looking the strongest it has since reestablishing the program four years ago, and we anticipate multiple wrestlers placing at multiple tournaments. Our first tournament is on December 20th at Delaware where we will kick off our season with some strong matchups. The Columbus Academy Tournament and the Quad Meet at Madison-Plains are other highlights.

Our goal is to continue to grow and build as a team, both in our numbers of wins and in the size and commitment of our team. We are beginning to establish ourselves as a program that is recognized for its tenacity and growth. We hope to take home medals at multiple tournaments, and our top goal is to have at least one of our wrestlers advance to the district tournament.

Drumline

Update from 3-year Drumline member, junior Isaac (pictured): The Drumline has doubled in size since last year and we’ll be performing at select boys and girls basketball games throughout the season. We recently performed at the school Christmas Concert and will perform again next semester at the Spring Concert. We also hope to enter some competitions in the following months. This year, people should look forward to our growth in musicianship, as we’ve been working to get better at reading music, dynamics, and control on the drums, and they should expect excellence! We have been working hard at rehearsals and building discipline, and that will be shown at every performance. Whether that’s a halftime show at a basketball game, a pep rally at school, or a concert in the chapel, we will be the best we can be and get better every single performance.
