Looking Ahead in 2021
Dear Friends of Cristo Rey Columbus,
I hope that the new year has begun with good health and peace for you and your loved ones. As we at Cristo Rey Columbus embark on our journey into 2021, we reflect on our accomplishments from the past year and focus on capitalizing further on these achievements. I would like to highlight a few priorities for Cristo Rey Columbus, beginning with our teachers and students.
Upon our return from the winter break, we switched to Enhanced Hybrid Mode, which is a change from our previous Hybrid Mode. This new learning mode allows students to attend class from home via livestream, so that students in the classroom and students at home can attend the same lessons and interact with their teachers in real-time. Our school’s successful adjustment to Enhanced Hybrid Mode is due to our teachers and students embracing an increased use of technology. When it is deemed safe, our hope is that all of our teachers and students can return for a full schedule of in-building learning, continuing to follow health and safety guidelines.
Another goal for this year and beyond is to improve standardized test scores, student retention, and maintain our students’ exceptional track record of college acceptance and preparedness for success throughout college. As a step towards this goal, we formed a Winter Bridge program, a one-week learning opportunity for students to engage with teachers and tutors. The program saw 44 participants and was a successful method of assisting our students in maintaining educational standards.
Professional development of our students will always be a top priority at Cristo Rey Columbus. On a monthly basis, our students have the opportunity to attend virtual career days with professionals in various fields, in order to learn more about careers that interest them or that they may not have previously considered. With regard to our Professional Work-Study Program, we continue to work closely with our business partners, who have done an outstanding job adapting to hosting our student workers both in-person and remotely. This has allowed our students to continue to build valuable career skills and prepare for a successful future. We greatly anticipate the time when we can reconnect in-person with our existing partners as well as new partners who will help contribute to our impactful and differentiating Professional Work-Study Program.
Throughout 2021, we look forward to working hand-in-hand with our incredible donors and supporters to strengthen our financial position for the future. A secure foundation enables Cristo Rey Columbus to provide our high-performing educational experience and the wide array of opportunities that support it.
Lastly, as we commemorated the historic contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. this past weekend, we are reminded that social justice and equality are ongoing concerns in our community and world. Cristo Rey Columbus will always provide a safe, accepting, and conscientious environment for students to work towards their educational, higher learning, and career goals.
Take Care and God Bless,
Joe Patrick, President
